About Dr. Maddox & Won't He Do It!:

Dr. Joe Benny Maddox is the ninth of nine children born on a farm in Harris County, Georgia. He was educated in Historically Black Colleges and Universities and is a graduate of North American School of Theology. In college, he secretly married his high-school sweetheart, Vivian Goodwin. They have two daughters Tonya Yvette Maddox Lewis (deceased) and Treasure Yvonne Maddox Bell. Some of the dark days of his life are centered around the medical crisis of his wife and the death of his daughter. He has served as pastor-teacher of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Knoxville, Tennessee since February 1986 and founded the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Malila, Kenya (Africa). His ministerial journey includes prominent leadership roles in local and national organizations. He served as president of the Oak Ridge Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP and is still active in the fight against social injustice.

Despite systemic racism faced in his secular career, he, a black man from a farm in west central Georgia, reviewed and commented on the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 before it was signed into law. He has held important supervisory titles in government jobs. Now, he adds author to his resume of achievements. Won't He Do It! Trusting God in the midst of... A Memoir of Relationships, Racism, and Redemption is a peek behind the curtains of the stoic Pastor Joe B. Maddox. It is his prayer that those who may be in what they believe to be the gutter-most of life, will trust in the God who protects him and brings him through difficult times.
